Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) dropped a massive election announcement on Sunday during CNN’s “State of the Union,” promising that he will work to pass reforms to the Electoral Count Act of 1887.
Senator Manchin and a sizable group of unnamed cohorts believe the chaos that occurred during the 2020 presidential election can be avoided from reoccurring.
Senator Manchin said “What really caused the insurrection? They thought there was an ambiguity if you will, and there was an avenue they could go through and maybe overturn [the] election, because there was.”
The plan being created by Senator Manchin could have major implications for future elections.
Senator Manchin continued explaining that “it was not clear when one congressman and one senator can bring a state’s authentic count to a halt, it’s wrong. Basically not protecting electors and you can change electors before you send them here after the election, all these things. This is what we’re going to fix. We have a group that’s continuing to grow. We’re 15 to 20 people that want to be part of it now.”
The prospective plan could receive support from Republicans looking to reassure Americans that they care about election integrity while not giving in to the leftist narrative around the so-called “insurrection” on January 6th.
