President Joe Biden’s favorite talking point right now is to slam the Texas voting law under consideration for being an “assault on democracy” and racist, but the hard truth is that the voting laws in his own state of Delaware are even stricter than those of Texas.
Texas actually expanded early voting in its law, but set certain hours where it is allowed. In contrast, Delaware does not allow any early voting until 2022, when the law is set to change.
Texas also lets anyone 65 and over automatically vote by mail, but Delaware requires registration, and never had vote by mail until the pandemic in 2020.
The Texas law also gives citizens more access to polling places as “watchers” to observe the process than Delaware’s law.
Biden doesn’t have a leg to stand on in attacking the law, but that won’t stop him from demagoguing the issue relentlessly and trying to keep more states from enacting similar laws.
