President Joe Biden has surrendered to the idea of enacting travel bans despite criticizing former President Donald Trump for putting travel bans in place to combat the spread of coronavirus.
The White House confirmed on Friday that there would be a travel ban on eight different African countries in response to the discovery of the Omicron coronavirus variant.
In a statement from the White House on Friday, President Biden said, “As a precautionary measure until we have more information, I am ordering additional air travel restrictions from South Africa and seven other countries.”
The President’s plan seems sensible enough until you remember that this is exactly what Trump did in the opening weeks of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Democrat Party, including President Biden and many around him, labeled Trump a racist and a xenophobe for preventing travel to the United States.
Back in February of 2020, Biden said, “We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering. He is the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health emergency.” Now, in 2021, Biden’s “hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering” seems to be totally fine.
