A new report says that the Chinese military has ignored three requests from the Biden Pentagon for diplomatic talks in an apparent standoff.
The talks would have been between China’s top military officer, General Xu Qiliang, and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
China is claiming that it did not “rebuff” the U.S. and suggested meeting “at the proper time” when congratulating Austin for becoming Defense Secretary.
The U.S. never answered the Chinese letter, it claimed, and called the action “unprofessional and unfriendly.”
The Pentagon said it would not respond in kind, and that they want to “have a dialogue” with Bejing.
