Potential 2020 Presidential candidate Joe Biden is reported to be planning on shutting down his charity foundation once he officially launches his campaign sometime this week.
The Biden foundation was created in 2017 to use educational programming and public policy analysis to “protect and advance the rights and opportunities of all people.”
Charity organizations such as the Biden Foundation have been a frequent target of attacks in recent elections. Hillary Clinton faced major criticism during the 2016 election cycle for not closing the Clinton Foundation.
Biden has reportedly elected to shut down the non-profit to avoid making the same mistake as Hillary Clinton in his campaign against President Trump.
The New York Times reported that once Biden announces his candidacy, the charity will suspend its operations. It will then be gradually dismantled as the campaign continues.
Biden is rumored to be planning to officially announce his third Presidential campaign within the next several days.
