President-elect Joe Biden’s team shut down communication during virtual press conferences after reporters asked Biden to take more questions from reporters.
Reporters that bemoaned President Trump’s supposed hostility towards the press are in for a rude awakening. Joe Biden will be no friendlier to them and will be even less accessible for media questions.
Sam Stein, Politico’s new White House editor, wrote on Twitter that, “The Biden transition team appears to have disabled the public chat function on its transition zoom calls, a place where I and others had been routinely complaining to them to take more questions.”
Throughout the presidential campaign, Biden was consistently absent from the media and rarely held press conferences.
While Biden’s absences were attributed to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, it was more likely his campaign was protecting Biden from embarrassing gaffes.
The next four years will likely be full of Biden taking questions from certain approved reporters, and anyone looking to ask tough questions will be ignored and silenced.
