President Joe Biden pooh-poohed thoughts and prayers given after a mass shooting, which get a lot of media attention but are actually very rare.
Biden thinks gun control measures are needed and that if implemented, they would stop mass shootings. “They’ve offered plenty of thoughts and prayers, members of Congress, but they’ve passed not a single new federal law to reduce gun violence,” Biden said. “Enough prayers, time for some action.”
He put a few minor executive orders in place that restrict guns, but the bigger action he took was to propose far more restrictive bills that have to go through Congress.
Will universal background checks and other restrictions on law-abiding citizens really help prevent criminal acts by shooters who are mostly mentally ill? Not likely.
