Ostensibly due to the coronavirus pandemic, though also potentially to limit his innumerable gaffes, presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has spent the better part of the past three months in the basement of his Delaware home.
According to Fox News, leaked video of a conference call involving a top Biden surrogate and other Democrats in Virginia seemed to strongly imply that it would be preferrable for the former vice president to remain right where he’s at for the time being.
Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, while addressing members of the Norfolk City Democratic Committee in a Zoom conference call, reportedly said, “People say all the time, ‘Oh, we got to get the vice president out of the basement.'”
“He’s fine in the basement. Two people see him a day: his two body people. That’s it. Let Trump keep doing what Trump’s doing,” McAuliffe added.
The former governor went on to lament that Biden had no real role in responding to the current crises in this nation, and added, “He needs to come out strategically. And when he says something like he did on race relations two days ago, it needs to have a big impact — thoughtful, and that’s what we’re preferring that he actually do at the time.”
