USA Today reporter Daniel Funke is getting pushback for his defense of President Joe Biden in a fact check over whether he checked his watch during a transfer ceremony of dead military members from Afghanistan.
Funke labeled the report “partially false” earlier in the week and claimed that Biden had checked his watch after the ceremony was over.
But his determination did not take into account that several Gold Star families said they saw Biden checking his watch during the ceremony.
Funke finally had to issue a retraction of his fact check and admit that there was evidence Biden had checked his watch several times during the ceremony.
“It’s easy to dunk on journalists when we get things wrong. I get it – to many, we’re just another name on a screen. But behind that screen is a person trying to do their best,” he said. Oh, brother.
