Biden has reportedly chosen Alejandro Mayorkas, who has been involved in multiple pay-for-visa scandals and was responsible for a flood of Mexican and Latin American immigrants to the U.S. in 2014, to run his Department of Homeland Security (DHS) should he be inaugurated on January 20.
Mayorkas was U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services from 2009 to 2014. The Cuban immigrant was approved on a party line vote to be a deputy of DHS in 2014.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) complained in 2010 that Mayorkas was “fostering” an atmosphere that encouraged applications to be approved and applying pressure when employees showed concern about fraud.
“Cronyism, corruption, swampiness, and the immigration issue” are perfectly aligned in a nomination of Mayorkas,” Jessica Vaughn at the Center for Immigration Studies said.
Sens. David Purdue and Kelly Loeffler should be talking about Mayorkas and his lax attitude toward immigraiton, Vaughn said.
