President Joe Biden called “the MAGA crowd” “the most extreme political organization that’s existed in American history” on Wednesday during remarks about the Supreme Court’s apparent decision to overturn Roe V. Wade and give abortion rights back to the states.
MAGA stands for “Make America Great Again,” a political slogan of former President Donald Trump, but Biden’s remarks were inaccurate because MAGA is not a political organization.
Biden’s accusations against Trump supporters were not the only inaccurate part of his remarks, either.
Biden also claimed that Justice Samuel Alito’s draft decision, if finalized, would put other rights in danger–specifically, that the opinion could lead to laws that disallow LGBT children to be in classrooms with other children. Where he got that from is anyone’s guess.
Alito specifically said in the opinion, “Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.”
