Americans worried about the safety of the 2nd Amendment under a presumptive President Joe Biden can relax slightly as Biden himself has admitted that he lacks the authority to ban “assault weapons.”
Biden met with civil rights activists on December 8th and responded to a call to ban “assault weapons” via executive order, to which he responded, saying, “I’m not going to exercise executive authority where it’s questioned. There’s no executive authority to do away with that [assault weapons].”
It should be remembered that despite Biden’s political realism, he is still very much an enemy of our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
Biden continued saying, “No one’s fought harder to get rid of ‘assault weapons’ than me, but you can’t do it by executive order. You do that, and the next guy comes along and says, ‘Well, guess what, by executive order…everybody can own machine guns again.'”
Biden also knows that any attempt to overstep his bounds will be immediately challenged, and the Supreme Court will strike down any restrictions on the 2nd Amendment.
Biden will try as he still wants a ban on “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines, but he will have to accomplish that through the legislative branch with help from the Democrat party.
