Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) has labeled President Joe Biden “authoritarian” for trying to coordinate with Big Tech companies to censor Americans’ free speech regarding the coronavirus.
Blackburn wrote a letter to Biden demanding to know why he was “flagging” Facebook posts that the administration considers to be “disinformation.”
“These revelations are deeply concerning. The blatant actions by your administration to work with big tech companies to censor Americans’ free speech are shocking – and arguably a violation of the First Amendment,” she said. “The U.S. government should be standing up to, not looking to mirror, authoritarian regimes such as” Cuba.
She also wanted to know the criteria Biden was using to flag and remove the posts, ban users, and direct social media platforms to flag and remove posts from their sites, as well as whether Biden administration staff members were dedicating their time to flagging posts they thought should be removed.
No administration should be telling any social media platform what posts to flag or remove, no matter how misinformed those posts are. It is a very dangerous thing for any government entity to do, and it is something not permitted under our system of government.
