President Joe Biden was quick to announce sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine late Wednesday night, but he left some gaping holes in those sanctions that make one wonder what exactly is going on with the whole situation.
While Biden named Russian President Vladimir Putin specifically as the aggressor, he did not include Putin in the sanctions, nor did he sanction Russian oil other than by shutting down the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
Biden said the sanctions would “take time,” and that he didn’t think Putin would be easy to break.
He also didn’t say whether he was talking to China about isolating Russia. Seems like China and Russia could make it a pretty long time without the rest of the world’s cooperation.
By the time Putin feels Biden’s sanctions, a sovereign Ukraine will probably be a long-lost memory.
