President Joe Biden said he wouldn’t do it, but less than 6 months into his presidency, he has broken a massive promise to the American people.
John Nolte, of Breitbart News, reports that Biden “pledged not to raise taxes on ‘anybody’ making $400,000 or less. On Wednesday, the White House basically announced Biden had lied. Akshually, the number is more like $200,000.”
Back in August of 2020, Biden stated, “I will raise taxes for anybody making over $400,000.”
Biden then doubled down. “So no new taxes for anyone under $400,000?” asked the interviewer. “No new taxes. There’s no need for new taxes,” said Biden.
“White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Wednesday clarified that President Biden’s proposed tax hike would apply to people who earn $200,000 per year if they are married to someone who makes the same amount,” noted Breitbart. “Psaki said at her daily press briefing that the proposed $400,000 threshold for tax increases applies to “families” rather than individuals.”
The distinction is not a complicated one for any tax payer muchness a lifetime politician. So it would be hard to chalk up Biden’s misinformation to a mistake rather than a lie.
