Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Joel Pollack said on Friday that President Donald Trump should boycott the upcoming House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearings, calling them a “farce.”
Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) has invited Trump to be present at the hearings and to have legal counsel, claiming that they are following the same rules as during the Nixon and Clinton impeachment hearings. Pollack says this is a lie, however, because the Judiciary Committee hearings are only going to be able impeachment procedures and history, not about the phone call between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky that has formed the basis for the inquiry.
In his Nov. 26 letter to the president, Nadler claimed: “These procedures, and the privileges afforded to you therein, are consistent with those used by the Committee in the [Richard] Nixon and [Bill] Clinton impeachments.”
Trump and his legal counsel were not allowed to be present at the Intelligence Committee hearings presided over by Adam Schiff (D-CA), and they could not call witnesses or even object to witnesses or testimony. In addition, transcripts of exculpatory witness testimony were downplayed or even withheld, and witness testimony was twisted to seem like it implicated Trump when it didn’t.
Nadler also warned that the committee would pursue “remedies” if Trump withheld witnesses from testifying.
