Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced that Judge Amy Coney Barrett will be confirmed by the Senate “no later than Monday.”
Despite the stiff resistance Democrats were able to muster, Judge Amy Coney Barrett will soon become Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett.
McConnell said that Barrett’s performance in the Senate hearings demonstrated that Judge Barret has the “sheer intellectual horsepower that the American people deserve to have on the Supreme Court.”
Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate and with two Republicans opposed the party still has 51 votes to confirm Judge Barrett.
Republicans were even successful in persuading Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) to support Judge Barrett’s nominations. Murkowski initially expressed reservations about confirming a justice so close to an election.
The nomination and confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett will be one of the most significant victories of President Trump’s time in office.
