Former Erie County, New York Democrat legislator and election official Betty Jean Grant was charged recently with harassing an elderly voter who was voting with assistance on Election Day in November 2021.
The district attorney alleged that Grant entered an occupied voting booth where an 80-year-old woman was voting with assistance from another person and told her she was acting illegally.

The Erie County Board of Elections said it received a complaint about the incident the next day. The board sent a letter to Grant ordering her to stay away from polling places and revoked her poll-watching certificate.
“You have interfered with the election,” the board further told Grant.
