Liberal Democrat Alan Dershowitz compared House Democrats trying to impeach President Donald Trump to Russian secret police under Stalin on a Sunday radio broadcast, saying that they are just “making up crimes” to impeach Trump over.
On John Catsimatidis’ radio show, Dershowitz said that Americans need to be “frightened” by how the Democrats are working to “create crimes out of nothing.”
“It reminds me of Lavrentiy Beria, head of the KGB, [who] said to Stalin, ‘Show me the man and I’ll find you the crime.’ Which he really meant, ‘I’ll make up the crime.'”
“Obstruction of justice is a crime; obstruction of Congress is part of our system of checks and balances,” Dershowitz said, adding that the president has “an obligation not to respond” to subpoenas and other requests if he can show concretely that the conversation was privileged.
Dershowitz had harsh words for CNN as well. “CNN has banned me from their airwaves; CNN will not allow me on their network,” he said. “Because they don’t want a liberal Democrat to be telling their viewers the truth about the Constitution. Instead they have people out there who are just parroting the party line over and over and over again and misleading their viewers.”
