New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) may be witnessing his political career going up in flames. Republicans in the New York State Assembly are laying the groundwork for impeaching Cuomo.
New York State Assemblyman Ron Kim (D) said that “people are inching toward the impeachment process,” and that number includes a large group of Democrats.
Republicans have been working on getting the ball rolling on impeachment ever since news broke that Cuomo and his administration covered up their role in the deaths of thousands of elderly New Yorkers in nursing homes.
Kim continued saying, “I believe there needs to be a thorough investigation. But I did say that if there is enough evidence, we need to start the impeachment process. I sent a memo, along with ten — nine other colleagues on Monday after his press conference that we need to take this measure. So, I think there are other members that now, they agree with it. We have a meeting next week.”
While Cuomo’s offenses are certainly impeachment worthy, it wasn’t clear if Democrats would break with party lines. Now it appears that a large group of them are ready to join Republicans and impeach Cuomo.
If Democrats in the State Assembly do join with Republicans, Cuomo is done, and his career is over. Considering what Cuomo did, it is only right that he be thrown out of leadership.
