An impeachment bombshell just dropped and the news is spreading through the corridors of power in Washington, DC. Four senators have flipped. It is all over now.
Bucking against Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stalling tactics, Sens. Doug Jones (D-AL), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chris Murphy (D-CT), and Angus King (I-ME), have called for the trial to move forward.
With three Democrat senators and one independent senator (allied with the Democrats) demanding that Pelosi send over the articles of impeachment, we can expect it to happen soon.
Sen. Jones, in particular, has a lot to lose — given his seat in Alabama is a key target for Republicans this year. “I think most people are ready to get moving on this,” he said on CNN.
Sen. Murphy, who doesn’t appear to even be vulnerable this November, told the Washington Post that “the time has passed” and “she should send the articles over.”
In short, it is obvious that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is poised to win this round — the trial will move forward soon and will be over just as quickly.
