A new Heartland Institutes and Rasmussen poll showed that 69% of American voters favored free market capitalism over socialism and that 50 percent would not vote for a socialist candidate, while only 26 percent said they would.
Only 12% of those surveyed said they preferred socialism to capitalism, and even a majority (53%) of Democrats preferred a free market economy in the poll.
Younger voters were more likely to vote for a socialist, with 42% saying they would.
Two presidential candidates with socialist leanings, Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) had unfavorable ratings of nearly 50% in the poll.
While nearly half, or 49%, said they would favor a ban on private ownership of assault-style rifles, a full two-thirds did not favor the repeal of the Second Amendment that guarantees the right to bear arms.
