Democrat governors who have been trying to keep their states locked down to depress the economy before the election have to be upset at the latest economic news: retail sales surged 1.9% in September, and some categories showed a complete recovery from coronavirus shutdowns.
The pace of September’s gains accelerated after five months in a row of gains, which is impressive no matter how you look at it.
Expectations were that the gain would only be about eight-tenths of a percent; it was more than twice that number.
Auto dealerships, books, camping supplies, and sporting and hobby goods were all above last year’s levels, indicating that consumers wanted these items as much or more than they did before the coronavirus.
It tells you something about Democrats and whether they are good for the country that this great economic news is bad news for them.
