Fox News contributor Mike Huckabee said he hoped everyone involved in the Capitol violence on January 6 would have charges brought against them even if they were supporters of Republicans and President Donald Trump.
“Rioting is wrong regardless if it is conducted by the left or the right,” Huckabee said. “You can’t have this kind of thing because, frankly, I don’t think you should have it in Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, New York, or L.A. either.”
“I think I am happy to see these prosecutions,” he continued. “I hope that they will extend to those people who ran against federal buildings in all of these major cities, who tore down government property, who assaulted police officers across the country. It shouldn’t be a left or right thing, this is a right or wrong thing.”
Huckabee’s comments were reacting to left-wing activist John Sullivan who told Fox last week that he followed the mob into the Capitol to “document” the event, and is now facing a criminal complaint after his brother reported his involvement to the authorities.
The fact that Huckabee’s comment is even news shows how polarized the country has become.
