Two-time failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is back in politics and is actively calling on Representative Tim Ryan (D-OH) to run for Senator Rob Portman’s (R-OH) seat in 2022.
Portman has chosen not to seek reelection in 2022, and Republicans will have to find a replacement for the longtime Senator. Democrats see an opportunity to flip the seat to strengthen their majority.
The midterm elections will be critical as Democrats hold a technical majority in the Senate, with Vice President Kamala Harris acting as the tie-breaking vote.
Republicans will be gunning to take back the Senate and the House in 2022, and, of course, holding onto Ohio will be critical for Republicans if they wish to retake the Senate.
As for Representative Ryan, he isn’t committed to running, although with growing support, it is hard to imagine he won’t try. Ryan said, “I’m overwhelmed by supporters who are reaching out to encourage me to run for Senate. I haven’t made a decision yet, but I’m looking seriously at it. Ohio deserves leaders who fight for working people.”
If Ryan does choose to run for Portman’s Senate seat, he would be wise to keep Hillary Clinton at arm’s length.
