Geoff Morrell has retired from his position as corporate affairs chief at Disney after just three months. Many speculate it has to do with his role in coordinating Disney’s response to Florida’s parental rights bill.
Morrell’s letter announcing his decision to leave said, “After talking this over with [Disney CEO] Bob [Chapek], I have decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities.”
Looking through the corporate speech, it’s clear that Disney’s decision to go after Florida’s parental rights bill backfired horrifically, and Morrell was the fall guy.
After Disney attacked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) for signing the parental rights bill, DeSantis responded by working with Republicans in the Florida legislature to strip Disney of many of its special privileges.
The damage done to Disney’s image has been immense, and the company has lost billions, becoming the poster boy for “Go Woke, Go Broke.”
Morrell may be gone, but the culture at Disney likely hasn’t changed in any significant way. Disney made its stance clear by siding with groomers and radical leftists, and they are now suffering the consequences.
