President Donald Trump said Thursday that he will look to quickly overturn an order that would make all terms included in the ethos and creed statements of the Navy SEALs and Navy Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC) gender neutral.
The SEAL ethos was changed from, “A common man with uncommon desire to succeed,” to “Common citizens with uncommon desire to succeed,” for example.
Naval Special Warfare spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Stroup said that the changes were made because the units are now open to women as well as men, although no women have yet completed the requirements and met the qualifications to join the elite units.
“I will be overturning this ridiculous order immediately,” Trump tweeted.
It is believed that he took this position because he identifies with the rank and file of the military, who normally oppose these kinds of changes.
