Veteran Democrat Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NJ) announced that he will “absolutely” run for office in the 2022 midterm elections.
The announcement put a stop to growing speculation that Representative Nadler would join the growing wave of Democrats that are planning to retire.
Representative Nadler is one of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) closest allies, and his retiring would be a devastating blow for Democrats who are already hemorrhaging senior members.
Representative Nadler’s two-year term will expire in 2022, and he will be 75-years-old when the midterm elections are decided.
It remains to be seen if Representative Nadler will stick by his word and run for another term. The speculation that he would retire wasn’t without solid evidence and many insiders still seem to believe that Representative Nadler’s days in Congress are numbered.
Representative Nadler has experienced significant health problems and it would be in his interest to retire. Representative Nadler will be a figure that Republicans will be keeping a close eye on as the midterm elections draw nearer.
