Former Georgia Republican House member Doug Collins said he will not be running for Senate in 2022, but may get involved with politics again in the future.
“This is goodbye for now, but probably not forever,” Collins said. “I do plan on staying involved in shaping our conservative message to help Republicans win back the House and Senate and help more strong, conservative candidates get elected here in Georgia.”
Collins ran in the special election in Georgia last year, but was edged out by Kelly Loeffler, who then lost the seat to Raphael Warnock in January.
A source close to Collins said he would be pursuing some private sector opportunities, and that he “left everything on the table last cycle.”
It was “time for somebody else to step up and run for statewide office,” the source quoted Collins as saying.
