An eight-year-old boy in Germany is dead after an immigrant to that country pushed him and his mother in front of a high-speed train in Frankfurt on Monday.
Reuters reported that the 40-year-old suspect was a citizen of the African nation of Eritrea. He is currently being held in police custody and an investigation into the incident is underway.
Eyewitness reports indicated that the man had pushed the boy and his mother off of the platform and in front of an oncoming train. The mother was able to save herself from being run over, but the boy was not so lucky and suffered fatal injuries.
The man was also accused of attempting to push another woman in front of the train as well but was unsuccessful. He also attempted to flee the scene but was chased down by others at the train station and detained until police had arrived.
The incident, which Germany’s interior minister called a “horrific act,” resulted in the temporary closure of numerous platforms in the city’s busy train station that serves as a sort of central rail hub for the entirety of the country.
It remains to be seen exactly what motivated this man to push an innocent woman and child in front of a high-speed train, but odds are this was no accident or mistake, and hopefully, this man will be held fully accountable for what he did.
