Josh Duggar, the oldest of the Duggar family famous for their “19 Kids and Counting” TV show, is being transferred to a federal prison to begin serving his 12-year prison sentence for possession of child pornography.
Duggar is expected to be held at either FCI Seagoville or FCI Texarkana, where he will be spending the next decade.
Duggar was found guilty in December and in response, Duggar’s legal team vowed to appeal his sentence.
Defense attorneys Justin Gelfand, Ian Murphy, and Travis Story said in a joint statement that “We appreciate the jury’s lengthy deliberations, we respect the jury’s verdict, and we intend to appeal.”
By all accounts, Duggar got off easy as he could have faced a maximum penalty of 20 years for each charge of child pornography possession.
His 12-year sentence is comparatively light considering the circumstances; undoubtedly, many Americans would have liked to see Duggar locked up for much longer. For now, however, a dangerous predator has been brought to justice.
