The last surviving WWII “Band of Brothers” officer, Col. Edward Shames, died at age 99 on Friday.
His obituary said he died peacefully in his sleep at home in Norfolk, Virginia.
Shames fought in the Battle of the Bulge as part of the “Easy Company,” 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.
The company became known as the “Band of Brothers” after a New York Times Bestseller by Stephen Ambrose was punished.
And the heros of “Easy Company” became widely known after HBO made a miniseries based on the book.
