He was just exonerated. The nightmare is over and he can breathe a sigh of relief. It has been years in the making, and now there is hope again. The truth has finally come to light.
Lydell Gran, a 42-year-old Texas man, served several years in prison for the 2010 stabbing and murder of Aaron Scheerhoorn. But he has been released on bond after new DNA evidence was revealed.
“But now investigators believe that 41-year-old Jermarico Carter is the killer,” reported the Daily Mail. “New DNA found under Scheerhoorn’s fingernails pointed to Carter as a suspect.”
Carter has been arrested. Furthermore, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg has reportedly said that Carter admitted to the murder of Scheerhoorn.
“We are relieved that Lydell’s wrongful conviction has had this important breakthrough. We look forward to his full exoneration at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals,” said Mike Ware.
Ware is the executive director of the Innocence Project of Texas. He is also one of Grant’s attorneys who fought for his client when others likely dismissed the case as hopeless.
