An 18-year-old from Washington State was found alive after eight days in the woods east of Seattle in what her rescuers say is a miracle.
Giovanna “Gia” Fuda disappeared on July 24 after last being seen at a coffee shop in Index, Washington, more than an hour from her home in Maple Valley.
Her car was found more than a week later, out of gas along Highway 2 in steep mountainous terrain. Rescuers searched the woods nearby and found a notebook and clothes that belonged to Fuda.
Her phone was turned off, but rescuers located her about two miles away, drinking water from a stream.
Fuda’s family was ecstatic that she was found, but she was too incoherent to tell rescuers why she was in the woods. She was treated at a local hospital.
