Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden won’t move forward. He just shocked millions of people across the nation with this announcement — no one expected it with less than 35 days until the November election.
During the first presidential debate, Biden would not answer whether he would pack the Supreme Court or end the filibuster of judicial nominees. “I’m not going to answer the question,” he said, refusing to move forward with a simple ‘yes or no’ response.
Biden said, “Whatever position I take on that, that will become the issue. The issue is, the American people should speak. You should go out and vote. You’re in — voting now. Vote and let your senators know how strongly you feel.”
President Donald Trump even pressed him on it, but he dug his heels in like any other career politician would. The truth is, Biden won’t answer the question because he knows that his answer would enrage Americans.
We should now assume, in particular, that Biden — should he become president — has every intention of increasing the size of the Supreme Court and packing it with liberal justices in order to blunt the court’s increasingly conservative bent.
It is what Democrats want him to do and there is no reason to believe he won’t follow through once elected. But the Supreme Court doesn’t need to change for blatantly political reasons — the very prospect of it would be disastrous for this country.
