It was just announced that he has refused to testify. Congress is shocked — they can’t believe he said ‘no’ and has chosen to send a proxy instead. The controversy is about to get much worse.
“Amazon reportedly refuses to make company CEO Jeff Bezos available for testimony in Congress, instead stating that it would ‘make the appropriate executive available’ in response to requests,” reported Breitbart News.
Specifically, the House Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), has asked Bezos to testify before the committee “in relation to the e-commerce giant’s competitive practices.”
The issue involves a lot of industry jargon, however, Democrats have basically implied that Amazon has misled them about the company’s “use of private-seller data,” an accusation Amazon has denied.
“We disagree strongly with any suggestion that we have attempted to mislead the Committee or not been cooperative with the investigation,” said Brian Huseman, Amazon’s vice president of public policy.
The House Judiciary Committee is currently conducting a probe into Amazon, Apple, Google, and Facebook, and Bezos is the only company head who hasn’t testified. It doesn’t look like he’ll be doing so anytime soon, either.
