A top-level figure just resigned and the White House is completely shocked. The political turmoil was reportedly too much for him — and now the situation has become even more complicated. This is stunning.
TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer — who joined the company mere months ago — sent a letter to employees of the Chinese-owned mobile app, saying that “it is with a heavy heart that I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to leave the company.”
Mayer has tendered his resignation amidst pressure from the Trump administration for TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, which is Chinese-owned, to sell “its U.S. assets to an American company within 90 days” or face a ban, reported Breitbart.
President Donald Trump and his administration have expressed concerns about TikTok’s operations for months now — specifically when it comes to national security and the protection of American consumers’ data.
Administration officials have raised the alarm that since ByteDance is Chinese-owned, the company is under the jurisdiction of Chinese law. China’s communist government could allegedly force the company to turn over sensitive information.
According to someone “with knowledge of the situation,” Mayer “did not sign up for this” and is leaving as a result. “He has put himself in a sensitive political zone. He will have to align himself with both his Chinese masters and public scrutiny in the US.”
