Prince Andrew has announced that he will step back from his royal duties indefinitely because of his previous connection to accused child sex predator Jeffrey Epstein.
The prince has denied knowing about or participating in any of Epstein’s accused illegal activities, but even just the fact that he associated with Epstein has caused some charities the royal family supports to sever ties with them.
The prince said that his “former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major distraction,” so he asked the Queen for permission to remove himself from his official duties.
Andrew said he continues to “unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein”, adding that his apparent suicide “has left many unanswered questions.” He also said he would “of course” be willing to cooperate with the authorities if needed.
The decision comes after an ill-fated BBC interview that left viewers confused over some of Prince Andrew’s bizarre answers and statements.
