Bright was ousted as director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), a division of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and Pelosi is running with an anti-Trump narrative.
Bright claims that he was fired for disagreeing with President Donald Trump’s suggestion that hydroxychloroquine, a drug typically used to fight malaria, should be further studied as a potential treatment for COVID-19.
But it isn’t that simple. Reportedly, there was a plan in place to fire Bright long before the COVID-19 crisis. “The Trump administration has been working to oust Bright since last year,” reported Politico’s Dan Diamond.
