The government just ordered Facebook to stop and Mark Zuckerberg is furious. He isn’t used to being told what to do — and now he is under the microscope like never before.
“Ireland’s data regulator has reportedly sent Facebook a preliminary order to stop transferring user data from the European Union to the United States,” reported Breitbart News. This is bad news for the embattled social media platform.
Reportedly, the European Court of Justice “ruled that the data transfer standard between the EU and the U.S. does not adequately protect the privacy of European citizens.” Ireland’s Data Protection Division appears to have acted in response to this ruling.
More than anything else, this situation is another example of the treacherous political and regulatory field Facebook is having to navigate as the world becomes “smaller” due to technological advances.
Here in the United States, Facebook hasn’t escaped criticism — or possible action — either. According to Breitbart, the social media platform is actively threatening to censor conservative content, thereby becoming a biased publisher.
“Facebook has threatened to blacklist the page of conservative comedy duo Kevin Hodge and Keith Hodge, better known as the Hodgetwins,” reported Breitbart. This came after the New York Times published a piece bashing the duo.
