The Communist Chinese government has reportedly been cracking down on poor Christians who receive government benefits, forcing them to take down Christian images of Jesus and replace them with images of Communist founder Mao Zedong and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Some of the citizens have had their modest government benefits suspended for refusing to give up their Christian images or stop attending worship.
China has just made a new system operational that assigns “social credits” to citizens based on the Communist government’s approval of their behaviors..
Persecution of Christians is expected to increase under the new system, where rewards are often given to people who report house churches, which are illegal in China.
One official in the Communist Party said that people were expected to obey the party in return for receiving benefits from the government.
