House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has called for Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) to be immediately removed from his position on House Intelligence Committee.
McCarthy plans to introduce a measure in the House next week after House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reinstated Swalwell to his position.
Democrats have continued to look the other way following revelations that Swalwell was in a relationship with a suspected Chinese spy. While Swalwell did nothing illegal that we know of, he is clearly compromised and should not be on the House Intelligence Committee.
McCarthy said on Friday that, “Pelosi just reappointed Eric Swalwell to the Intelligence Committee. Based on the briefing she and I received together, Swalwell should not be on the panel in charge of guarding our nation’s secrets. Next week, I will offer a resolution to remove him from the Intel Committee.”
Swalwell cut off all ties with the alleged spy when the FBI informed him of who she was. However, it still shows that Swalwell is compromised and clearly not the best judge of character.
Had a Republican been involved with a foreign spy during their time in office, Democrats would be clamoring for their removal. Swalwell doesn’t need to resign, but there is no situation in which he should be on such an important committee.
