Republicans in the Senate have caved to Democrats and agreed to support a gun control bill, and they are being led by none other than Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who said he would vote yes on the bill.
The agreement increases the restrictions on those under 21 who want to buy guns, increasing the time for an “investigative” period before they can purchase firearms.
No definitive time frame for the increase has been given, but both sides are claiming this new restriction will prevent school shootings and make schools safer.
The push for new legislation comes after a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas last month in which 19 children and two teachers died.
In reality, no new gun laws will prevent criminals bent on breaking the law from doing exactly what they want to do, and Republicans are fools and cowards for capitulating to the public sentiment that we “have to do something” to prevent these shootings. Where there’s an evil will, there’s a way, and criminals are bound to just ignore this new rule like they do every other one.
