Major social media platforms like Google, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube censored a video Monday of a press conference given by a group called “America’s Frontline Doctors” that touted hydroxychloroquine as a “cure” for COVID-19 and said that people don’t need to wear masks to prevent transmission of the disease.
The video was the top-performing post in the world on Facebook with over 17 million views before it was taken down by the platform for violating its standards.
The group referenced a “massive disinformation campaign” about COVID-19, including the disavowal of hydroxychloroquine as an effective treatment.
“If Americans continue to let so-called experts and media personalities make their decisions, the great American experiment of a Constitutional Republic with Representative Democracy, will cease,” the group’s website said after the video was taken down.
