On Tuesday, China enacted a “national security” law that effectively took away the right of Hong Kong’s citizens to have free speech.
The law allows the Communist Party to antagonize and prosecute dissidents in Hong Kong even though the city is supposed to be legally autonomous.
Hong Kong has been protesting Chinese interference in its government since 2019 when a proposed law would have allowed China to extradite anyone who was even present in the city if they were accused of violating Communist Party laws.
The 2019 law was abandoned but the encroachment on Hong Kong’s freedoms has continued.
I wonder when world powers are going to stand up with China, and whether they will wait until it’s too late to stop them from doing exactly what they want.
