CNN “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter blasted Fox News host Sean Hannity on Sunday’s program, calling his rhetoric “authoritarian” and saying that it leads Republicans to participate in “extremist” movements like “Stop the Steal.”
“On Hannity’s show, President Biden is president sippy cup,” Stelter said. “Biden is a weak, frail, cognitive mess, Hannity says. Yet, the Democratic Party is portrayed as an existential threat. Hannity calls it the Green New Deal Socialist Party, and he labels some Dems extremists. He calls American cities hell-holes. He sometimes calls them Democratic-run hell holes. He says the media is a mob and stalkers.”
This dark, dire language is fundamentally authoritarian,” he continued. “It portrays anyone who disagrees as not legitimate, as not American.”
I guess he doesn’t consider an administration like Biden’s that refuses to follow laws it doesn’t like authoritarian, even though it fits the definition much better than a TV host discussing the political news of the day from a conservative perspective.
Does he really think CNN’s relentless attacks on former President Donald Trump and Republicans are any less “poisonous” than he characterized Hannity’s statements, I wonder? Fortunately, his ratings are around one-fourth of Hannity’s, so not many people are actually hearing his baseless attacks anyway.
