Tucker Carlson said on his show Tuesday that the continuation of mask-wearing despite relaxed CDC guidance and an extremely low risk of death for younger, healthy people has become a new form of “mental illness.”
“It’s a neurosis, just like obsessive handwashing, but it appears to be spreading fast, like its own virus,” Carlson said of the seeming compulsion to keep wearing masks when it is safe not to do so.
As an example, Carlson played a clip of CBS morning host Gayle King asking Dr. Anthony Fauci if it is “really okay” to stop wearing the masks.
“I think we all either feel guilty or we feel it’s not time or we see everybody else doing it. It is monkey see monkey do,” she said to explain her feelings about continued mask wearing.
Carlson is worried that the path back to normalcy may not be a quick or easy one, and he just may be right.
