In the wake of federal charges potentially being filed, a prominent professor at the University of Georgia (UGA) has resigned. President Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) got him.
According to reports, the now-former political science professor, Jamie Monagan, is currently under investigation by DHS for reasons yet to be disclosed. UGA has also banned him from the campus indefinitely.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) assisted DHS in the investigation, even though GBI doesn’t have an open probe into Monagan. This is clearly a federal matter.
No other details were available, however, Monagan recognized in a September letter the gravity of the situation he was in. He did not appear to be in any denial about what could happen.
I acknowledge that in the event I am charged with a violation of state or federal law, a thorough review of the circumstances may be carried out,” wrote Monagan.
He also noted that “appropriate action taken pursuant to Board of Regents Policy 8.3.9 Discipline and Removal of Faculty Members” could come against him should any charges be filed.
