Dr. Anthony Fauci said Tuesday that the U.S. was coming out of the “full blown” phase of the COVID-19 pandemic and that he hoped restrictions like masks and vaccine mandates could be lifted “soon.”
“As we get out of the full-blown pandemic phase of COVID-19, which we are certainly heading out of, these decisions will increasingly be made on a local level rather than centrally decided or mandated,” he told the Financial Times, and said that there will “also be more people making their own decisions on how they want to deal with the virus.”
He did not give a specific end date for any restrictions, however.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis blasted Fauci and blue state leaders who are now removing restrictions, however, declaring that the “medical science didn’t change. The political science changed.”
“They feel the heat. They know that voters have been tired of perpetual lockdown policies. They know that they have basically offered no offramp and they know that they’re fixing to be whooped at the polls, so that’s causing the epiphany,” he said.
