Facebook just received some very bad news. The government has made a stunning move and no one can believe it — people are stunned.
“Poland’s Deputy Justice Minister has called on the U.S. to protect ‘every citizen’ from Big Tech censorship on social media, as his own country prepares new laws enforcing free speech standards online,” reported Breitbart News.
While France and Germany are going the anti-speech route, allowing them to “force social media to delete some content,” Poland is doing the exact opposite according to Deputy Justice Minister Sebastian Kaleta.
The aim of his legislation — he is also a member of parliament — is “to prevent legal content from being censored.” The United States should do the same thing, especially considering recent events.
In an op-ed for Newsweek, Kaleta noted that “Big Tech companies have done what was once unthinkable: de-platforming a sitting U.S. president.” This has “alarmed presidents and prime ministers across Europe.”
But it isn’t just about heads of state being censored — this was “merely the straw that broke the camel’s back.” Kaleta said that for Polish citizens and all “that value true democratic accountability,” the time to act is now.
